Find your Traxxas model number

Why the model number matters

Traxxas files everything by model number. Its owner's manuals, parts lists and exploded views are named for it, and its battery and charger pages list compatible models by it, as in "Maxx (89086-4)." We work the same way: every vehicle on our site has a parts hub keyed to its model number, with the owner's manual, exploded views and the parts list, and our Shop by Model page lists the models we stock. Two trucks can share a name and look alike yet use different parts, so we match against the number, not the name.

What it looks like

A Traxxas model number is five or six digits, a hyphen, then one or two digits. Current examples: 58234-8 (Slash 2WD XL-5 with Battery), 77096-4 (X-Maxx), 89086-4 (Maxx), 102076-4 (Maxx Slash) and 94376-74 (Drag Slash Chevrolet C10). Traxxas prints it as "MODEL 58234-8" on the manual cover, and its website labels it "Part Number." Copy it with the hyphen and everything after it; the suffix is part of the identity.

Where to find it

  • The owner's manual. The cover reads "MODEL" followed by the number, for example "MODEL 58234-8." Lost the paper copy? Your model's parts hub on our site has the manual for almost every model we stock.
  • The box. Look at the end panel of the box, near the barcode label; the model number is printed there with the product name.
  • Your receipt or order confirmation. Our product titles carry the model number, so it is on your order confirmation too.

One number that is not the model number: the serial number, a separate, longer code (Traxxas's example reads A6252000) that Traxxas uses for registration and recall checks.

Still stuck? Send us a photo of the chassis and the box and we'll identify it.

What the three parts mean

Traxxas's dealer guide says "Three simple pieces of information will tell you what you need to know about ANY Traxxas vehicle": a "2-digit number designates the style of the vehicle," a "Single digit designates which Traxxas radio system is included," and a "Single or 2-digit number tells what features are included." Take 77096-4. The first two digits, 77, are the family. Traxxas's recall notices list families by their leading digits, such as "Rustler, 370XX," "Slash, 580XX" and "Slash 4X4, 680XX," and every X-Maxx we stock starts with 77. The other two pieces, the radio digit and the features digit, sit in the rest of the number, but Traxxas doesn't publish a digit-by-digit key for today's longer numbers, so don't try to decode them. Just know that one digit changes the model: 77096-4 is the X-Maxx and 77097-4 is the X-Maxx Ultimate, and 58034-8 is an earlier Slash that Traxxas's site now points to 58234-8 as the "Current Model."

Color names on our SKUs

A color code after the number, such as -RED, names the color version: 77096-4-RED is the red X-Maxx. Strip the color and you have the model number, 77096-4. Every color of a model shares one parts hub; only painted bodies and a few color-matched parts differ by color.

Model number or part number?

Traxxas's website labels both "Part Number," which can be confusing. The pattern tells them apart. A vehicle has five or six digits, a hyphen and a suffix, like 89086-4. A spare part or accessory has four digits, sometimes with a letter: 2872X is a battery, 2970 is a charger, 3415 is a tool kit, 6511 is the Traxxas Link wireless module. Type a model number into our search box to jump to that vehicle.

Look-alikes, and how to tell them apart

These pairs are mixed up most often. The figures are Traxxas's own specifications.

Pair Model numbers How to tell them apart
Slash 2WD and Slash 4X4 Slash numbers start with 58 (for example 58234-8, 58434-4); Slash 4X4 numbers start with 68 (for example 68454-4) Same 22.36-inch length and 1/10 scale. The 2WD is rear-drive with a 13.2-inch (335 mm) wheelbase; the 4X4 is "Shaft-driven 4WD" with a 12.75-inch (324 mm) wheelbase. "The 4X4 trucks have chassis and drivetrains optimized for 4WD, and are not conversions of the 2WD designs." Turn it over: a driveshaft running to the front axle means 4X4.
Maxx, X-Maxx and XRT Maxx 89086-4; X-Maxx 77096-4; XRT 78086-4 Maxx: 1/10 scale, 22.50 inches long, 10.40 pounds, one battery. X-Maxx: "X-Truck" scale, 30.67 inches long, 19.1 pounds, two 4s packs. XRT: 31.41 inches long, 23.43 inches wide, 21.03 pounds, two 4s packs. "XRT is the companion to X-Maxx, engineered for a race-inspired driving experience."
TRX-4 and TRX-4M TRX-4, for example 92076-4; TRX-4M, for example 97054-1 The TRX-4 is 1/10 scale, sold without a battery, and runs a 2s–3s LiPo or a 6–7-cell NiMH. The TRX-4M puts "the fun, adventure, and scale realism of the TRX-4 in a 1/18 platform": 11 inches long, 1.06 pounds, battery and charger included.

Older models

Traxxas calls a model it no longer makes a "legacy" vehicle, one that "may still be supported with parts, either through Traxxas directly or thousands of hobby stores around the world." Traxxas's own advice: "it definitely helps to know which legacy model you have," and "If you're unsure, you might try your local hobby shop to see if they can identify it for you." That's us. Our parts hubs cover the current models we stock; for an older truck, send us a photo of the chassis and the box and we'll work out the model and what still fits. As Traxxas notes, "Hobby shops often have legacy parts in stock."
